My Favorite Morning Ritual: Lake Norman’s Local Markets

One of the things I love most about living in the Lake Norman area is the sense of community you feel at our local farmers markets the moment you step outside.  For me, there is no better way to experience that than by spending a morning at our local farmers markets.

It’s not just about the groceries; it’s about bumping into friends, meeting the people who grow our food, and enjoying the fresh air. If you’re looking to get a true taste of local life, here are the spots you can't miss.

1. Josh’s Farmers Market | The Heart of Mooresville

Where: 558 River Hwy Mooresville NC 28117 (stay tuned for location of permanent location)

When: Open Daily

If you’ve lived here for any length of time, you know Josh’s. It’s a local institution. What I love most about Josh's is that it isn't just a weekend thing. Whether you need fresh corn for a Tuesday night cookout or some local honey to help with seasonal allergies, they are there for you every day.

  • The Neighborhood Vibe: It’s the kind of place where the staff remembers your face. In the fall, it’s the best place to take the kids for pumpkins, and in the winter, it smells like heaven thanks to the fresh-cut Christmas trees.

2. Davidson Farmers Market

Where: 120 S. Main St., Davidson

When: Beginning March 28th:  Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

There is something so charming about Saturday mornings in Davidson. This market is "producer-only," which means you’re talking directly to the farmers and bakers. It feels like a weekly block party where everyone is invited.

  • The Neighborhood Vibe: Grab a coffee from a shop nearby and just stroll. Between the live music and the incredible fresh flowers, it’s the perfect way to start a slow weekend.

3. Huntersville Growers’ Market

Where: Veterans Park at Main & Maxwell

When: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (May–October)

This market has been around for over 20 years, and you can really feel that history. It’s located right in Veterans Park, making it a great stop if you have the dogs or the kids with you.

  • The Neighborhood Vibe: It’s incredibly laid back. You’ll find everything from local artisans selling handmade soaps to some of the best tomatoes you’ve ever tasted.

4. Mooresville Farmers Market

Where: 225 E. Iredell Avenue, Mooresville

When: Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (June–September)

This is a "hidden gem" for those who really love to cook. It’s smaller and more intimate, which makes it easy to actually chat with the vendors about what’s in season or get tips on the best way to prepare some of the unique heritage vegetables they bring in.

  • The Neighborhood Vibe: Friendly, quiet, and full of some of the hardest-working folks in our community.

A Little Piece of Home

Supporting these markets is one of the easiest ways to keep the Lake Norman area feeling like a small town, even as we grow. There’s a special kind of pride in knowing that the peach you’re eating was grown just a few miles down the road.

Pro Tip: If you’re heading to Josh’s, keep an eye on their social media—they often get limited runs of specialty items (like local strawberries or fresh corn) that sell out quickly!
